Common applications for sonic drilling include heap leach pad recovery, grade control sampling, and pre-collaring. Sonic drilling advances a temporary outer casing as the borehole is drilled, allowing more to be accomplished with a single borehole. Sonic drilling reduces waste, and can be up to two to three times faster than conventional overburden drilling.

For the sixth year in a row, Boart Longyear’s global EHS and training manager, Brian Maeck, will be presenting at the PDAC Health and Safety in Mineral Exploration Short Course. Maeck’s presentation will take place on Saturday, March 4 and cover the basics of drilling, associated hazards and controls, Boart Longyear’s safety programs and safety culture.
