Boart Longyear TSD bits contain no natural diamond to eliminate the possibility of core sample contamination. Inside and outside gauge diameter integrity is maintained with heavily reinforced tungsten carbide particles, eliminating the need for natural diamonds in the gauge protection.
TSD bits are manufactured with an extremely erosion resistant matrix. Additionally, the setting exposure of the TSD elements can often result in high penetration rates due to the aggressive nature of the cutting face. Improved flushing of these bits is a result of the large waterways used in the design. When using the triple tube coring system, a face discharge port is added to the design, forcing the majority of the fluid discharge to the bit face. This allows core recovery and inspection in a virtually undisturbed condition.
