Boart Longyear offers both standard and stabilized reaming shells. The standard reaming shell is recommended for a wide variety of drilling conditions, and designed to give the highest quality and longest life in a variety of drilling conditions, including deep and multiple hole applications.
Boart Longyear standard reaming shells are designed to provide a shell to bit life ratio of better than 6:1 in hard rock drilling conditions. Stabilized reaming shells are manufactured with an extended length to provide maximum bit and core barrel stability. The additional stabilizing ring is set with tungsten carbide inserts and natural diamond to stabilize the shell against the hole wall for improved hole alignment and reduced in-hole vibration. Please refer to our core barrel catalog, available from the download corner on the website, for more information.
Boart Longyear recommends that holes are drilled with two alternating reaming shells in each hole to assist in the maintenance of hole diameter. When changing bits, the reaming shell should be checked for wear with the bit and shell wear gauge. Using this technique, you can minimize problems arising from poorly stabilized bits or undersized holes that can require costly reaming.
