Rock Drill and Blast
Drill and blast is essentially a hole drilled into the rock and filled with explosive. After detonation the muck is cleared and the process is repeated. This is a fast and effective method to quickly remove earth and harvest ore. This process is usually done with a pneumatic/hydraulic top hammer or an ITH hammer with a carbide percussive bit.
Boart Longyear's™ drill and blast fleet is centered around long hole drilling with our Stope™ drill rigs. These rigs are versatile in drilling all angle boreholes and are able to easily access confined areas. The rigs can tram through openings just under 1.5m x 2m in diameter and are able to do top hammer or ITH.
