Coring Surface Equipment

Boart Longyear's “Q” wireline system revolutionized the diamond drilling industry and propelled Boart Longyear to where it is today. Innovations are important to us and we are constantly evaluating new techniques to improve productivity and lower costs. Over the years’ we have built a successful reputation for ultra-deep directional drilling, remote camp operations and technically demanding projects.

Boart Longyear has successfully undertaken major programs over the years.

Diamond Core Drill
The Seco 3000 has been designed for deep drilling by Boart Longyear Seco based on our years’ of Drilling Services experience. The Seco 3000 safety features include an automatic chuck, breakout tools and hydraulic foot clamps. The depth capability is:

5000 metres using CUD 76 rods, and
3000 metres using CUD 96 rods

Two types of masts are available:
The conventional mast that is 30 metres high with a base of 6m x 6m. It handles a load of 100 tonnes and takes three weeks to erect. BL CDD has 10 conventional masts.

The jack knife derrick mast that handles a load of 75 tonnes and takes one week to erect. BL CDD has 14 jack knife derrick masts.

""We focus on customers, not competitors. While we need to monitor competitor activity, our innovation and planning should be driven by customers' needs not by following competitors."

Boart Longyear 50 Diamond Core Drill System
This high performance diamond core drill is a modified Longyear 44 diamond core drill capable of drilling to depths of 2000 metres using RQ rods. The drill can be skid mounted and is capable of vertical and angle drilling.

Boart Longyear 44 Diamond Core Drill System
The modular concept of this drill permits the operator to select components for a system, which is specifically tailored to individual drilling requirements. The Longyear 44 has an important safety feature of an automatic pre-torque and breakout tool. The drill can be trailer mounted and skid mounted for vertical and angle drilling.

Survey Equipment
Investment in the latest Reflex Multishot Electronic Survey Equipment enables Boart Longyear to provide fast and accurate data to customers compared to mechanical methods, which are prone to error and require skilled interpretation of the photographs.

Down – the - hole (DTH) Motors and Electronic Survey Equipment
Boart Longyear utilizes modern equipment and techniques to provide their customers with straight hole technology, resulting in increased productivity.

The down-the-hole 2.3/8” high-torque, low-speed motor is used together with Tensor's MWD Equipment and techniques to steer holes on their designated course.

The DTH Motor has a penetration rate of 2 metre per hour and water flow of 150 litres per minute at 4.5 MPA. At every 1.5-degree deviation a DTH motor can be run to re-align the hole to get it back on track. This method eliminates steel wedging and the risk of losing the hole.

RQ Rods
The introduction of Boart Longyear's new RQHP high-performance wireline drill rods – developed by the groups’ Canadian arm – provides an improved depth rating and has up to five times the wear resistance of other available products.

The heat-treated rods features an innovative advanced “low stress” thread design, virtually eliminating belling, bulging and thread jumping, as well as reducing rod wear, failures, spinouts and premature retirement of rods. The joint strength and efficiency of the RQHP rods provide our customers with improved productivity.
