Methane Vent

Methane is often found in coal deposits where gas is absorbed into the solid matrix (coal macerals).  As the coal seam is depressurized, due to mining, methane is released from the surrounding matrix creating dangerous build ups inside the mine. Boart Longyear™ can drill ahead of the mining operations so that blowers can be installed to draw methane from the depressurized formation.

These blowers effectively vent the methane from the mine, allowing safe advancement further into the ore body.
