For some buying decisions, that makes perfect sense.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p_tc\">But, just like when buying a new vehicle, it\u2019s important to consider more than the sticker price. Coring rod is typically 40 percent of that amount, or about 3 percent of total costs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p_tc\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t<\/section><section class=\"tcvpb_section_tc\">\n\t\t\n\t\t<div class=\"tcvpb_section_content\"><div class=\"tcvpb_container\"><div class=\"tcvpb_column_tc_span6\"><div  class=\"\" >\n<p class=\"p_tc\">So let\u2019s say you buy coring rod that costs 25 percent less than a competitive product. Are you really saving anything? Maybe not.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p_tc\">First of all, consider the big picture. Spending 25 percent less on 3 percent of your operating expense is really a savings of less than 1 percent overall. For example, a rod that is 25 percent more expensive but lasts 50 percent longer really has a 20 percent lower cost per meter \u2013 and that can add up to plenty of pennies saved.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p_tc\">Beyond joint strength and durability, how a contractor handles rod in the field has a huge impact on rod life and the chances of dropping a string, which in turn affect productivity. Having to redrill a hole or deal with unsticking rods costs precious time and can take a toll on both operating costs and your reputation with your client.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p_tc\">Given the uncertainties of shear zones, swelling formations, voids and other variables, even the most precise drilling technique can\u2019t totally prevent stuck rods \u2013 just as careful driving can\u2019t guarantee that you won\u2019t get into an accident in that new vehicle of yours.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p_tc\">But having the strongest rod possible increases your chances of being able to pull out of the hole without breaking the rods and having to fish or drill them out. It\u2019s like an insurance policy that will save you significant operating costs by avoiding more downtime when these situations do occur.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p_tc\">So if you\u2019re really serious about minimizing costs and protecting your reputation, don\u2019t pinch pennies.
