In addition,  we’ve eliminated the need for hoist plugs – further delivering on our commitment to safety.

With a capacity of up to 3000 meters of NXQ W-Wall or 2600 meters of NXQ straight wall, it can handle the needs of most diamond coring projects.

The forward-tilting head and kick-out tray (KOT) make it easier to handle the rods and inner tubes, reducing the need for manual intervention and maintenance. The system can handle inner tube lengths of up to 6 meters.

When coupled with the FREEDOM Loader, rod handling efficiency is the best in the industry.  In addition, hands-free innertube handling is standard.

Pin Case Hardening
Case hardening is unmatched in protecting threads from wear. Other drill rods are typically through-wall hardened to 32 HRC. Boart Longyear coring rods are case hardened on the pin thread to maximum hardness – 60 HRC, creating a significant hardness difference between pin and box. This difference minimizes wear compared to the rapid galling that other threads experience. In repeated “make and break” field testing, other non-case-hardened rods were shown to fail at between 12 and 73 cycles, whereas XQ joints withstood more than 600 cycles.

Patented XQ Mating Joints
Opposite double-start threads are self-aligning so mating engages smoothly. XQ  mating joints nearly eliminates jams for the best make and break around. They also eliminates the driller assistant back-turning to thread the joints for better safety and productivity.

Imagine not having to send the driller assistant back near energized components to have them 100% back turn the rod to mate the threads or trying to mate the threads by hand at all. XQ Rods keep workers safer by keeping them away more often. Plus, more meters can be drilled because less time is spent mating threads.

 Thread Coarseness
XQ rods have two threads per inch for reduced rotation and easier manual make up. When making joints by hand, rotation places stress on wrist. Threads with less rotation are faster to make up and generate less fatigue and potential for repetitive use injuries. The driller assistant spends less time trying to mate threads – for more meters and core in the box.

Rod handlers improve safety by keeping helpers away from energized components and potential injury from wrenches under power. Coring rod threads will jam in 20-30% of joint make-ups, meaning that time is lost, and 5% of the time the helper is back near the rotation unit, reducing safety.  These jams add significant unproductive time either to unjam threads or rotate threads backward 100% of the time when manually making joints.

The patented XQ rods feature a unique thread entry, nearly eliminating jams, upgrading safety for hands-free rod handling, where making and breaking of rods is mechanized.  XQ threads also feature a coarser pitch with less rotation, making them faster to make up by hand, generating less fatigue, lower stress on the wrist and less potential for repetitive use injuries.

Improved Wireline Tripping Speed
Wireline time, especially on deep holes, is a significant portion of time spent drilling. Measurable savings in wireline time adds significant productivity. The larger inner diameter of W-Wall tubing has more space to allow drilling fluid to pass by inner tube assemblies during wireline tripping, making wireline tripping up to 50% faster.

On an 800 meter hole, simply changing from straight wall to W-Wall rod can save 2 shifts or put 20% more core in the box.

The LF350e and FREEDOM Loader combination provides hands-free rod handling. No intervention from the driller’s assistant is required to align and cycle the rods when operating the loader. 

The FREEDOM Loader can cycle 6 meter rods in same amount of time as a manual cycle, which means enhanced safety is achieved without compromising productivity.

The LF350e drill rig is completely electronically controlled utilizing CAN bus and PLC devices. The patent-pending control panel features a 12” touch screen display for drilling information and mode selection.

With up to 3,360 meters of NQ W-Wall capacity, the LF350e can meet the demands of the deepest diamond coring projects. Need a larger size core in a deep hole? The LF350e can deliver 3050 m of HQ core or 1800 m of PQ core using HRQ W-Wall and PHD W-Wall rods.

The LX6 weighs only 6,500 kg (14,330 lb) and is less than 2 m wide providing excellent site accessibility. The heavy-duty mast design and two-speed drill head can deliver up to 6,000 NM (4,440 lb-ft) of torque. The pull back of the LX6 is 55 kN (12,364 lb), providing a powerful drilling solution in a small and lightweight footprint.
