<p class="p_tc">Drillers regularly deal with a number of challenges when retrieving a core barrel, partial trips, false indications, and spearhead failures. Resetting the landing indication is a costly process and, it increases the opportunity for injury. Boart Longyear created the original wireline technology used throughout the industry and we’ve focused our experience on reinventing core retrieval.</p>

<p class="p_tc"><strong>SAFER</strong></p>
<p class="p_tc">The new overshot applies our experience with Roller Latch head assemblies to create a system that eliminates spearheads and lifting dogs entirely. The spearhead is replaced by a socket adapter that accepts the overshot itself. Rollers securely latch into an internal groove in the adapter.</p>
<p class="p_tc"><strong>MORE PRODUCTIVE</strong></p>
<p class="p_tc">The new overshot is designed for self-flushing and — if need be — easy cleaning by flushing through the porting provided. The wedge has three large flats to ensure no debris build up. Using past experience, we have been able to improve the function of the landing indication system for better productivity with your overshot. With a brand new pump-in cable release system, the Roller Latch will eliminate shear pins and increase the reliability of wireline recovery.</p>

This difference minimizes wear compared to the rapid galling that other threads experience. In repeated “make and break” field testing, other non-case-hardened rods were shown to fail at between 12 and 73 cycles, whereas XQ joints withstood more than 600 cycles.</p>

XQ&nbsp; mating joints nearly eliminates jams for the best make and break around. They also eliminates the driller assistant back-turning to thread the joints for better safety and productivity.</p>
<p class="p_tc">Imagine not having to send the driller assistant back near energized components to have them 100% back turn the rod to mate the threads or trying to mate the threads by hand at all. XQ Rods keep workers safer by keeping them away more often. Plus, more meters can be drilled because less time is spent mating threads.</p>

Thanks to this chemical bond diamonds are able to project farther above the matrix allowing for increased life, higher penetration rates, and improved face flushing with the easy, smooth drilling characteristics drillers prefer. <p class="p_tc">By developing a proprietary process of coating diamond bits while in the furnace, Boart Longyear has successfully created a chemical bond between diamond and matrix. The bond acts stronger than the diamond itself and provides higher diamond projection (up to 80% compared to 40% for mechanical bonding) for improved flushing, higher penetration rates, and longer bit life.</p>
<p class="p_tc">Typical diamond coatings do not create a chemical bond, due to the strong oxide on typical titanium coatings, leading to the same 40% diamond projection as mechanical bonding. As a Longyear bit is drilling and the matrix wears down around the bottom, the diamond stays in place longer and acts like a bigger diamond, which results in more meters per bit.</p>

Additionally, one touch rod feed and pull functionality allows the driller to efficiently and effortlessly trip rods.</p>

For wireline drilling, a wireline drum counter has been incorporated into the DCi for semi-automatic descent and retrieval of the wireline.
