Manufactured from lightweight materials, the Mag-Grip is as light as simple lifters and 50% lighter than other magnetic lifting mechanisms on the market. Five sets of magnets pack a strong grip with exceptional hold on thin steel and round surfaces. Safely pick up sharp or dirty tubing without touching it. Hands and fingers are kept safe because pinch points are eliminated.

Mag-Grip’s patented design takes advantage of active shunting technology to create true ON/OFF states all without the use of an electrical power source. Utilizing powerful magnets, the magnetic field is controlled by a simple 180-degree turn of a handle. To activate the magnets, turn to ON and the magnets immediately align and lock onto the steel pipe. A built-in detent resists against accidental release. Switch to OFF and the magnetic poles cancel and release.

The new Mag-Grip Rod Lifter is an innovative lifting tool offered exclusively by Boart Longyear. Knowing the rigors drilling crews go through when moving tubing, this tool is designed to lift and handle pipe, rods, casings, and tubes in a much safer and easier way.

PATENTED TECHNOLOGY
The Mag-Grip’s ON/OFF magnet switch is designed to control the magnetic field with active shunting which turns off completely to eliminate accumulation of particles and dirt. Other solutions on the market may actually permanently attract dirt. Mag-Grip is easily actuated and suitable for mechanical actuation.

LIGHTWEIGHT
Mag-Grip is no heavier than passive solutions and 50% lighter than other magnetic solutions, making it easier to hold under load.

ERGONOMIC PIVOTING HANDLE
The handle is designed to pivot, preventing accidental twist off and allowing for a more comfortable hold. Easily change the handle from fixed to pivoting and vice-versa, simply by tightening or loosening the set-screw.

DESIGNED FOR OPTIMAL STRENGTH
To maximize holding strength, the housing is especially designed to follow the curve of tubing, offering a much higher strength/pull on thick and thin materials. The housing is also grooved to easily and accurately align along the pipe axis.

CE CERTIFIED
The Mag-Grip Rod Lifter conforms with health, safety, and environmental protection standards. Order two or more to safely transport long pipes around site, transfer from storage racks to vehicles, or when moving to the rig for drilling operations.

HD76 threads have larger, deeper coarse threads providing maximum durability and pullback as well as lower make-up torque. Joint strength is higher than the industry standard Q rating and equals the pullback rating of RQ thread.

Rated for 3000 meters, the HD76 rod features a combination of exclusive heat treatments and a coarse thread design to provide the ultimate in pullback with lower make-up torque.

When ordered with optional grooves for communication inserts—Modular Electrically Connected Cable Assembly (MECCA)—the HD76 rod is the highest performing rod available for the gas drainage market.

A unique combination of -20 degree self-locking reverse flank angle on the threads and symmetrical load distribution when combined with W-Wall double-annealed mid-body, make XQ wireline coring rods some of the deepest rated coring rods in the market.

Self-Locking Reverse Flank Angle
XQ has an increased negative flank angle from of -20 degrees compared to -10 degrees in RQ rods. The increased negative flank angle combined with the double-start threads, nearly eliminate box bulging and provides greater strength in high torque applications.

Symmetrical Load Distribution
Patented XQ joints have opposite double-start threads that are self-aligning so mating engages smoothly. This provides a balanced load response and double the contact area, which means half the contact pressure. This symmetrical load distribution increases load capacity significantly for stronger rods with deeper capacity.

W-Wall Double Annealed Mid-Body
W-Wall has a more uniform bend distribution like straight wall, stiffness comparable to Boart Longyear’s variable wall rod, V-Wall. The result is a rod with flexibility for ease of directional work that holds up better than V-Wall. Boart Longyear rods are put through a proprietary process during manufacturing to remove all residual stress and maximize strength and resistance to bending.

Boart Longyear’s W-Wall tubing option on RQ rods made drill strings up to 30 percent lighter, thanks to its thin-walled mid-body. The lighter drill string increased drill rig depth capacity and reduced fatigue in driller's when manually tripping. The enlarged inner diameter also significantly reduced inner tube tripping time for improved productivity.

The new NXQ and HXQ W-Wall coring rods feature patent-pending, double-upset tubing, with the same overall weight reduction and faster wireline tripping speed as W-Wall. However, the standard wall thickness in the middle of XQ rod eliminates premature mid-body wear and resists bending, performing like straight wall tubing.

As all Boart Longyear coring rod, XQ W-Wall tubing is cold-drawn from high quality, North American alloy steel, uniquely processed to Boart Longyear specifications.

By developing a proprietary process of coating diamond bits while in the furnace, Boart Longyear has successfully created a chemical bond between diamond and matrix. The bond acts stronger than the diamond itself and provides higher diamond projection (up to 80% compared to 40% for mechanical bonding) for improved flushing, higher penetration rates, and longer bit life.

Typical diamond coatings do not create a chemical bond, due to the strong oxide on typical titanium coatings, leading to the same 40% diamond projection as mechanical bonding. As a Longyear bit is drilling and the matrix wears down around the bottom, the diamond stays in place longer and acts like a bigger diamond, which results in more meters per bit.

Once drilling has commenced, with the push of a single button on the DCi control panel, the control system monitors drill rod position, rotation speed and feed, and continues drilling. This sequence includes a re-chucking process to feed the entire rod. On completion, the control system disables rotation and allows for a short period of water flushing before shutting down. Additionally, one touch rod feed and pull functionality allows the driller to efficiently and effortlessly trip rods.

The DCi works with conventional drilling and wireline methods and the rig is equipped with 600 m (1,969
ft.) of 6 mm wireline cable. For wireline drilling, a wireline drum counter has been incorporated into the DCi for semi-automatic descent and retrieval of the wireline. While attention must be paid when sending
 or retrieving wireline and tooling, the driller is no longer required to keep his finger on the button or hold a lever when retrieving core.

The LM110 features a load sensing hydraulic system, proportional controls, a fail-safe rod clamp, built in troubleshooting and a spooling device. These features make the LM110 a highly reliable drill when operating in harsh conditions.

The 110kW power pack delivers up to 33% more torque to the drill head than a similarly equipped LM90, delivering increased productivity.

The LM110 was designed as a modular drill rig with a number of options for site-specific customization. This drill is easy to use and upgrade to meet the needs of future drilling projects.

An optional patented rod handler can be added to the LM110, which greatly increases driller safety. The rod handler makes loading rods easier and ensures drillers remain away from moving parts during rod tripping.
