BLY Employee Presented Lifetime Achievement Award at NWRA

At this year’s Nevada Water Resources Association’s Annual Conference, Boart Longyear’s Business Development Manager for the US, Darrell Tweidt, was presented with their prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. The Association presented this award in recognition of Darrell’s exceptional level of commitment to the responsible development of water resources for both the mining industry and municipal projects in Nevada.

Originally from Canada, (which might explain why Darrell is so darn nice!) Darrell studied water science at the University of Saskatchewan in the early ’70s. After school, Darrell’s career in water resources spanned more than 40 years, including running his own business, Tweidt Well Drilling, from 1978 to 1986. Darrell has served on the Nevada Water Resources Association (NWRA) board since 2009 and has been instrumental in the successful fundraising efforts to sponsor scholarships for Nevada students interested in working in the water resources industry.

Throughout his career, Darrell has been an advocate for responsible water development in both the public and private sectors. He has worked closely with numerous consultants, public entities, and private industry to successfully develop complex water projects. His advice and recommendations are highly sought after to ensure project success.

Further to his commitment to clients, Darrell has an impressive and ongoing commitment to fundraising in Nevada for various industry organizations and college scholarships. Darrell has made significant contributions to the industry and Nevada and has been a mentor and leader for those in the water resources profession. For three decades, Darrell has mentored associates, clients, and coworkers and has garnered lasting friendships with innumerable people throughout Nevada.

The Association is grateful for Darrell’s thoughtful work in the water resource industry including management, mentorship, fundraising, questionable drinking standards, and tributes. Darrell commented, “The NWRA Lifetime Achievement Award is typically awarded to some of the best state engineers or geological scientists, so I’m really humbled and honored to receive such significant recognition. It’s been a pleasure to work with the NWRA and I’m grateful for all of the opportunities and support I’ve received over the years. And even in my retirement at the end of 2019, I look forward to staying involved.”

In operation for more than 70 years, the NWRA is a non-profit professional association whose mission is to provide education, training and networking opportunities for those interested in understanding, developing, conserving, and protecting Nevada’s water resources.

Congratulations Darrell, this award and recognition are well deserved!
